Melinda Serman Martindale-Hubbell Award
  • Born Chicago, Illinois, March 10, 1967; admitted to bar, 1992, Illinois; 1993, Colorado and U.S. District Court, District of Colorado. Education: University of Vermont (B.A., 1989); Loyola University of Chicago School of Law (J.D., 1992). Melinda served as a student editor for THE BUSINESS LAWYER from 1990-1991. Melinda also authored a law review article entitled: A Quagmire of Uncertainty for Intangibles: Determining Arm's Length Consideration Under the Proposed Regulations for Section 482 of the Internal Revenue Code and was a Staff Writer for the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law school newspaper Blackacre.

    Recipient: American Jurisprudence Award in International Taxation, Spring, 1992; IRS Strategic Initiative Award, Spring, 1992. Past Commissioner, City of Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Commission, 2001-2005. Past Member: Board of the Tread of Pioneers Museum, 2009-2012. Past Member: Board of the Routt County Humane Society. Past Member and Founder of Impact 100 Steering Committee. Member: Board of The Foundation, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.     Melinda Sherman received her law degree from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law in 1992, was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1992 and the Colorado bar in 1993. Melinda has practiced law in Steamboat Springs for more than 31 years, focusing in the areas of real property, business, banking, special district, zoning, municipal, homeowner associations, estate planning, and water law. Her practice involves representing local clients as well as clients nationwide. She worked as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Steamboat Springs from 1993 to 1998. Melinda actively supports the Steamboat Springs community and dedicates her time to many community service organizations. She served as past Commissioner on the City of Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Commission and a past board member on the Board of Directors of the Tread of Pioneers Museum, Impact 100 Steering Committee, and currently is a board member on The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Foundation. She actively participates currently as a volunteer to the Admissions Committee for the University of Vermont, supports local arts by providing Pro Bono legal services to Elevation Dance Studio in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and supports local sports by acting as the liaison to the Booster Club for the Steamboat Springs High School Alpine Ski Team. Melinda is a member of the Routt County, Northwest Colorado, the Colorado, and the Illinois State Bar Associations.

    Appointed by Governor Jared Polis to the 14th District Judicial Nominating Commission for a term expiring at the end of 2029.
